Finely detailed antique Victorian opal & diamond snake necklace (circa 1880s to 1900s), crafted in 14 karat yellow gold.?
Opal measures 8mm x 5mm. One small old mine cut diamond is estimated at 0.02 carats (estimated at I-J color and I1 clarity). Note: the opal shows internal fissures. ?
Sweet and petite, the beautifully detailed snake coils around the opal, with a diamond set head extending down the opal. For centuries the snake has represented faithfulness and eternal love. The chain measures 16 inches in length and is a later addition. It dates to about the Art Deco era of the 1930s and was made by Esem Company, a fine jewelry manufacturer based in Newark, NJ since 1906 (Newark was a hub of jewelry production at the time). The necklace is a distinct & very wearable antique piece that makes a stunning statement on the neck! ? ??
The necklace was very lightly cleaned, with care taken to preserve the patina and collector value.?
