A wonderful Antique mid Victorian slave bangle (Circa 1870) shaped like a coiled snake and made up entirely of carved French Jet beads with two Pearl studded eyes.
French Jet is a type of black glass used to simulate the beauty of Jet which became popular during the grand Victorian period and worn by Queen Victoria as part of her mourning attire.
Serpent jewellery was also popular during this time and symbolized a wonderful combination of love, loyalty and friendship with their coiled shape representing an infinite, everlasting bond.
The black beads are built around a flexible metal coil which allows it to expand and fit the wrist comfortably. It¡¯s been well preserved throughout the years and in good condition for its age.
